Learning to let go...

Halloween has long since been a favorite holiday of mine.  I mean, parties, costumes, candy!  What's not to love??  There were the childhood years of being chased around the subdivision by that wacky neighbor wearing a sheet over his head...  Then in college I fell in love with a certain sweet transvestite. (...From Transexual... Transylvania...  ya, ya!  Sorry I can't say those words without singing along!)  And finally in my own place, I started hosting annual Halloween festivities.  When I met the hubbs, he jumped on board with my love of all things spooky.  Well, except for The Rocky Horror Picture Show.  But I married him anyway.

That bring us to now...  And with the exception of the year when our plumbing exploded and the basement looked like a dirt bike racetrack, we've kept up the tradition.  Until this year.  We debated about it a couple times, but for some reason we just couldn't muster up the excitement.  Maybe it's because the munchkin is at that age where she's just a little too young to be a part of the party.  Or it might be because many of our friends have moved out of state this past year.  But more than likely, it's just that we didn't have the motivation to pick a theme, make costumes, fancy up the place, or cook the ghoulish goodies.

And while I'm sad to break tradition, I know that sometimes, something's got to give.  And right now, I've got my hands full with work, family, and home.  We can't all be Martha, all the time.  :)
